Respawn Entertainment, developers of Apex Legends, announced on August 6th that the highly requested solo mode would be available to play starting August 13th for a limited time. Many fans are excited for the update; however, some are skeptical of the idea.
How Will Apex Legends Solo Mode Work?
Apex Legends was developed with three player teams in mind, with various abilities tailored specifically for team play. Lifeline, for example, is a character designed to support the rest of the team. Because of this, her fast revive and shield ability will be useless in solo gameplay. The loot pool will also need to be changed for solos, and it is unclear how Respawn plans to address this issue.
One of Apex Legends most notable features, the ping system, will also be rendered useless in the solo game mode. What’s the point of pinging if you’re the only one that will see it? Respawn’s pinging system is highly praised among fans that prefer not to use mics and is one of the many reasons people love the game. Many of the features that make Apex Legends so popular are going to be useless in the new solo format of the game. We are sure that Respawn has plans to keep the game interesting but we will have to see how the trial run goes first.
What Pro Gamers Think About Apex Legends Solo Mode
Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek, ex CS:GO professional and current full-time twitch streamer, is pessimistic about the viability of the new solo mode. Shroud says “Chances are, they’re not going to [balance abilities in solos], which is why the game isn’t going to be very good in solos.” He thinks “it will come out for a limited time, for two weeks, people are going to try it, they’re going to hate it, and then [Respawn] will pull it and they probably won’t do it again.”
