Who is in the Overwatch League Playoffs?
Twelve teams are facing off to take home the trophy but who are the teams in it? The top six teams will all have a week off. First, we have the two division winners: The Vancouver Titans of the Pacific Division (1) and The New York Excelsior (2) of the Atlantic Division. The Titans have been hot this season by placing Top 5 in every stage this season including 1st place in Stage 1 and runners-up in both Stage 2 and 3. Joining those two teams are the San Francisco Shock (3), who currently league the league in point differential. The Hangzhou Spark (4)and the Los Angeles Gladiators (5), both of the Pacific Division, will be joining them and the Atlanta Reign (6) of the Atlantic Division will be joining them as the sixth seed with a clutch first place finish in the fourth and final stage of the season. The bottom six playoff teams will compete in the play in bracket. First, we have The London Spitfire (7) and The Seoul Dynasty (8) who will have a first match bye. The Guangzhou Charge (9) will face the Chengdu Hunters (12) to kick off the tournament and the second match will see the Philadelphia Fusion (10) face off against the Shanghai Dragons (11).
What to Expect in Week 1 of the Overwatch League Playoffs
None of the top 6 teams will be playing in Week One, which will give them all an edge in strategizing since they will be able to watch their opponent. The Guangzhou Charge is lead by All Star Shu; however, he plays as a Support. The big question is if he has enough backup from his teammates? The Chengdu Hunters will be led by All Stars Jinmu, Ameng, and Yveltel. This match will be one to watch. Will The Charge win as expected, or is the Big Three of the Hunters too much for the Charge?
The Shanghai Dragons and the Philadelphia Fusions will battle it out later on in the night. The Fusions will be led by Poko and Carpe who have both played very well this season and that combination of an All-Star Tank and Damage might play well during the playoffs. Diem of the Shanghai Dragons has been absolutely BRILLIANT this season by finishing the season top 10 in both Final Blows and Eliminations per 10 minutes. Not to add, he finished top 20 in damage per 10 minutes. The winners of these two matches will go on to face the Support heavy London Spitfire or face to damaging Duo of Michelle and FITS of the Seoul Dynasty.
This season is one to remember, but it all comes down to this. This next month will be one to remember in the Overwatch Community. Will we see some of the top players face off once again or will some of their journeys come to a disappointing ending early? Will Sinatraa and SeoMinSoo continue to dominate on the battlefield as they have all season? Will Ripa’s overall game and MVP caliber season play well for the Gladiators this playoff season?
